CROSS AND BLUR

In art terminology, the term "nude" coincides with the tradition of painting nudes. Connotation is built from the meaning of "nude" far from the notion of nudity (to be naked). Nude painting tradition has not only old age, but also has become a tradition of painting throughout the ages. Nude paintings were first discovered in the Greek era in the fifth century. Since it is continuous nude painting accepted at various ages. To this day, nude painting became one genre of art that still have a place.
 

Actually nude painting reality is influenced by two things, namely the artist idealism about the human body shape and the fact the body is facing. Of course, in this case there are cultural constructions that influenced artists idealism. Every time and every age, the body is always interpreted by the various interests that accompany it. The body is not merely physical or material frame of man, the whole material organism is seen as organic entities. The body also is a prison / meaning, such as Plato proposed, the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit as well as views of St. Paul; body also is the engine, which sounded by Decrates; body also is me and my body, like Sartre proposed. In essence, the body is a place where loads of symbolism, cultural, sexual, moral, public, private, positive, negative and given meaning to the body. "All this is not merely a physical phenomenon, but also the social dimension" (Synnott, 2003:11).

Nude art, thus, are not present merely depicts the human body naked. There are some cultural background that influences the birth of an art work. Idealism about the cultural construction of the body is a very great effect on the spin-art aesthetic nude.

Instead of the patriarchal culture, a number of value or other thing will also affect the power composed of artists. Call it for example how the discourse of the body these days that the subject matter of world powers that affect the various cultural sectors. In the discourse of power / knowledge, Michel Foucault pointed out that the mastery and awareness of people towards their own bodies can be achieved only  through effect of investment of power in the body, i.e, through sports, though muscular, Nudism, the cult of the body, and so forth.

 

In Indonesia, this construction is, perhaps, grow up from a patriarchal culture. Male artists, therefore, be "players" who are dominant in this nude art genre. The other side which also became a part of this cultural construction is the disclosure of excessive fears of the authorities - both formal and informal authorities. How can such a number of formal rules associate through coercion which then manifest in the form of hegemony on cultural practices today.  The body, eventually transformed into a kind of sponge that absorbs everything in liquid surrounded.

This exhibition is intended to identify the response of Indonesian contemporary artists about the nude. Expected will be born a number of representations, idealism of body, and the morality of other realities that accompany it. Thus, this exhibition will not present the reality of the naked body as it is, but is accompanied by loads of naked body symbolism, cultural, sexual, moral, public, private, positive and negative.

Execution Method
The participant on this exhibition are artist who are specially invited by the curator with Andi's Gallery Jakarta. His method was to offer discourse / issues / themes based on abstract curatorial Nude by giving leeway for interpretation of this theme. Artists invited to submit works (painting, drawing, sculpture, objects, etc.) more than two pieces to be selected by the curators with equal  suitability of the themes and possible representation in the exhibition space.
